Honest Matt....Rf's rarely " bask" like some other species.... they may time to time ( morning usually ) sit in one spot for a bit to warm up , but then it's off to a dark snuggle area to burrow down and feel safe. Although I dont keep my Rfs in a tank type enclosure( I stay as natural as possible) you may get different results.....
I agree....the smaller redfoot torts here that have an indoor enclosure have a day heat/basking lamp and at night they have a black light heat lamp.....I do not run a uva/uvb lamp indoors as they get outside alot here for stretches of natural sun....and when they do have their day light on they will come out and eat under it and I will find them regulating a bit from their warm enclosure to the hot spot from time to time...but as described--they like to huddle off under a plant or into their prospective fav corners and dig down----
If I had to rely on a uva/uvb set up though----I would run a long tube uva/uvb lamp along with a che or black light for heat....I understand that in some places the outside time is much more limited than here in the high desert of california....
I have two RES turtles and their indoor set up is a long tube uva/uvb along with a basking light for day hours....they have a heated tank all of the time so at night no heat bulb
