My husband said, "Digger's out". "No", I said. "It's not warm enough today. He's in his indoor enclosure".
I went to the back door to see what he was talking about. "How did he . . . wait, that's not Digger".
On the patio was this fella, the same size as my 30 year old Russian.
He is hiding in his shell and hissing - so cute! and, trying to pee on me.
Is this a wild box turtle (I live in Oklahoma) that I can return to the outdoors?
I've never seen a box turtle with these markings.
OR . . has someone's pet escaped? (Or been turned out.)
Shell is relatively smooth.
His head and legs have small bright orange spots.

It is a Three-toed Box Turtle. It is native to your area (they do not occur in the panhandle but occur in the eastern two thirds of the body of the state), so can safely be released.

Like I said; this is my "go-to".
Thrilled you remember me. How are you doing?
How is your weather? We are so wet this year. Have a chigger problem.
Been very busy with work. Busier after retirement - go figure.
Digger is well; hybernated (brumated) first time this year.
He was more curious about the three toed box turtle than the the turtle was about him.
Did you see the pics? That was a bright orange box turtle - so cute. Sent him on his way.
Good to "talk".
Walk in peace and the beauty of the earth.
