Hi I'm a bit worried about my RF shell. Along the grooves around his schutes are white and look very dry could this be a rot or any kind? I have only had him a few weeks he's 5 years old. The last owners had him in a very small table I think the same one when he was a baby. He had been kept on lino and only fed iceberg lettuce, pellets and chicken they only bathed him once a week. The water bowl wasn't big enough for him to bathe and drink at the same time. I immediately said i would take him. He's in a much bigger enclosure now with a bigger water bowl which he doesn't want to leave. I give him curly kale, dandelion, mushrooms, rocket, pellets and i have just started growing cress. I have ordered aloe Vera and prickly pear plants. I tried him on coco coir but he got it into his eyes and got an eye infection. The vets gave me drops and it cleared up. He's now on orchid bark but I have decided on cypress mulch which I am waiting for to delivered. I have a MVB but i have just ordered a uv strip light and a che. His humidity is at 50% which u know is to low so I have covered up some of the top with perspex and hope that will help. I bathe him every day. Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to give his history and current situation

Is it "Kelly"? Happy Birthday, Kelly!!!!!

Sounds like you're doing ok in the tortoise-keeping department. Because the new growth between the scutes seems dry to you, you can take a Q-tip and paint those lines with either olive oil or cold pressed coconut oil. Allow it to soak in for about 15 minutes, then gently polish it off with a soft absorbent cloth.
