Just so happy for my little hatchlings. They started out around 40grams, just weighed them today and the largest is 81 grams and the smallest around 68 grams. They are getting so much more active and have hearty little appetites! Patiently waiting for it to get warm enough to move them to their outdoor enclosure, at least during the day.

California Desert tortoises. I have an adult pair and apparently they mated. I found the babies in my yard last fall. Going to have to separate the parents this year. Don't want anymore of these babies, even though they are really cute!

Just asking, but isn't it true that female torts can lay clutches of fertile eggs multiple times after a single mating?

You may be right. Crossing my fingers I don’t find more. The babies are a lot of work. Once they are mature I need to find homes for the babies.

Are you offering any up for adoption? I’m located in Pasadena, have a couple tortoises currently, but have been looking to adopt a DT. Thanks in advance.

Best,
Mark

Remember, desert tortoises do not need buddies. The stress of another will eventually kill one, or the other. Separate enclosures is vital. It may be months or years, but one or both, will die prematurely. Sadly.
