Is anybody else with an outdoor tortoise having problems with their greens being blown away by this miserable wind?

If I'm not going to be home when Chug gets up, I like to put his food out before I leave. Not only is it getting blown off his "plate", but it's being blown clear out of his enclosure!

Just had to vent...[emoji34]

Try wetting it down.
I always pour some water over his greens, just to help to get it into him. He doesn't drink or soak on his own, so I have to be diligent with soaks.

The greens still blow...we're having 20-25 mph steady, and gusts of up to 35 at our house. Much worse on I- 10 through Banning Pass.

I could try serving him breakfast in bed! If I could find his bed in the mansion of tunnels he's dug.

And that is why they put all those windmills out there...

Put it somewhere where the wind is blocked. Wall, fence, something

Yes, that's true. But I can't figure out why each time I drive past them, that many are not turning.

I understand they are governed so they can't turn to fast. But why stop them?

I'm going to learn more about solar power...we have contracted to put panels on our roof. No construction yet...in the permitting process. Thank God the solar company does all that!

I put solar on my roof 10 years ago. I love it. No complaints. Go big. Get way more panels than you think you'll need, because once electricity is "free" you'll use a lot more than you you right now.

They will be doing a 6.82kw system, with 22 panels. That will completely cover our south-facing roof. It's supposed to produce 13,200 kwh.

We had panels and batteries in our bus conversion we lived in for 12 years, so I'm not totally clueless. But it is kind of difficult to translate that into a house system, at least for me.

I HATE THE WIND!!!!!

Build some sort of wind break. Stack up a few cinderblocks on the windward side and place the food in the shelter of it.
I think that's what I will have to do.

And I think, along with the solar panels, that we should install a wind turbine! [emoji2]

Do you have any large rocks you can use to weigh down the greens? If the greens are big leaves, you can use rocks to weight down one corner of the leaf? And maybe the tortoise will get a bit of exercise rolling the rock away when it gets down to the "crunch".

I like this idea! A few stones large enough to be safe but that he can move with a bit of work. A practical suggestion that offers entertainment opportunities as well! [emoji2]
