Hello everyone!
I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

my leopard tortoise is getting to for this hide and I can’t find any now big enough on the market he will fit.

I’m looking to make my own out of wood, but I’m worried on the types of wood I can and can’t use and if it should be treated wood or not?

anyone have any idea which wood is ok for this?
Thanks in advance!

If you checkout “storage totes” from large home improvement stores, or WalMart or Target you should be able to find a good size. These Rubbermaid totes are easy to cut, easily cleaned.

Some use an upside down washing up bowl with an arch cut out. File down the edges to remove any danger.

How big is your tort?
I'm useless at wood work so I use a Pets Imperial insulated dog kennel with a reptile radiator heating it for my 13+ inch long leopard. They are available in different sizes, I think mine is the medium.

He has his own room and lives indoors all year round because our weather is so unpredictable but he has access to his outdoor weather on warm days.

He’s not this big atm he’s weighing around 600g and still living in a large indoor vivarium. Within the next few years I’ll be moving him into something similar as you’ve pictured above!

atm he needs a tortoise hide or cave to go into his viv,and he has out grown anything that can be shop brought in the UK

My tort was already quite big when he adopted me so he had to have his own room from the start.
It's taken trial and error to find the best accommodation to maintain the high temps for him, but the kennel has worked out well and he loves it! There are days when he won't leave it so he has to have room service!
It also means that I don't have to have my heating on 24/7/365 which is much cheaper for me.

I suppose that in the summer he could live outdoors but my garden isn't very secure and I don't have electricity supply out there, so I prefer to keep him in and just let him come and go as he pleases.
Sounds like you have plenty of time to weigh up the options.
