Definitely not. Devore is one of the worst shelters there is. They dont even give dogs blankets and they absolutely will put it down. It is more than likely going to be put down. It’s so upsetting
Oh my goodness! If I was local and if I had the facilities I would rescue this gorgeous Sulcata🙏.

We have already picked up the tortoise and he is at our vet right now. They said it had pneumonia and was being given batril (terrible) but the tortoise has gone down hill since the vet treatment, kept outside in a dog kennel, no heat, nothing. But we have him now and are doing everything possible to save his life. When Dana picked him up this morning, he is in very bad shape. Head to the side, labored breathing and no resistance to his limbs. We hope to of got him in time. 💚🐢
Any updates? I’ve been thinking about him everyday. Maybe we can start a go fund me to help with his vet bills.

Here's 2 videos that Joshua Tree put on YouTube about this tortoise..'Chance'. The veterinarian put in a feeding tube. Evidently the tortoise is full of cement and it needs to be flushed out...and they are pretty sure he has only one eye. 😢

Umm it is ok temp here without heated house but being sick it would help if they heated his housing. Low temps have been in 60’s
60s is much too low for a sulcata. That will make them sick if they aren't sick already. Where they come from temps are 80-85 in their burrows all year long, with daily highs around 100 above ground.

Thank you so much for updating us. How in the world did he get cement in him. This poor guy was not taken care of. How devastating. I will definitely be making a donation to this rescue

Maybe he ate it because it was white. There was one tortoise on here that had eaten aluminum coke can or something.
I know mine go for things that are shiny and one of them tries to eat certain rocks. The white shells.

His eye too...like I think to myself what he went through on a daily basis to get this way. I feel like we need commercials to educate people you know. Because there's information out there. We need stricter laws too.

My tortoise passed a large piece of urate. I was feeding him too much collar greens a couple years ago. He was constipated, so I fed him a Aloe leaf. Here is what he passed, looks like white cement. He don't get collar green anymore.

Urates are caused by either too much protein, or not enough hydration. Collad greens do not cause urates.

If it wasn't the collard greens, what food would give him high protein. He has not had any collard greens since passing that stone. All is urates are coming out loose and watery without collard greens. Would dandelion be to much protein, he enjoys his dandelions.

Lots of the weeds we feed are fairly high in protein. I don't know about the store bought Italian dandelions, but clover and plantain weeds are both fairly high in protein, for example. These are all good foods to feed, AS LONG AS the tortoise remains well hydrated through a program of hydration: Frequent long soaks, wetting the food, sleeping with humidity in the sleeping chambers, and feeding some foods like opuntia pads that have a high water content.

If the urates were loose and watery, then there is really no issue with your tortoise. I just wanted to make sure that you and anyone reading don't think that goiterogens, like what is in those collard greens, is the cause of urates in our tortoises. It's too much protein, or not enough hydration that does it. It's okay to feed higher protein foods, like the legumes, as long as the tortoise remains well hydrated. Our tortoises need some plant proteins to remain healthy. Just not too much, too often, and not when they are kept too dry as most of the people outside of this forum are taught to keep them.
