Ernie. What's your opinion on over feeding. If I feed 2 torts the perfect diet but one gets twice as much as the other. Would the one getting more of the perfect diet pyramid. Assuming everything else is set up perfect in the enclosure too.

The amount of food in my opinion isn't a driving factor for pyramiding in young torts unless the humidity and stress factors (no place to hide, and bright light) are a part of the equation. They'll just grow at different rates and most of it is based on genetics. I've had a dozen hatchling Redfoot's for 9-12 months before I sold them and they all were different sizes and they got the same amount of food and lived in 80-90 degree, 80-90% humidity enclosed pen with 80% coverage so plenty of places to dig in and hide.

Hey I’m Tyler brand new to tf. I’ve got a few redfoots I bought from Ernie several years ago and I reached out to he and Jane to give a baby update recently and our convo lead me here, so I’m enjoying having “found my people”. Very much enjoying this thread everyone seems thoughtful and reasonable in their responses, been on forum for a day or so and that’s not always th case! Anyway wanted to say hello from th panhandle and hopefully I can get some pics to post. I know I’ve got one from when they were babies bc it’s still my home screen for my phone and both my daughters think thats great and definitely have some pics of torts here lately.

Ok so here’s some of my guys, all 9 came from Ernie at same time and have been raised side by side (3 groups based on size until this perm pen I finished this summer, still a work in progress w th interior landscaping!!)and you can see different levels of pyramiding from #9 who has hardly any to #5,6 who are stacked th highest, comparatively. I asked Ernie about this just last week on th phone so I’m obviously enjoying th input from everyone!

They look good, and so does your place, you have plenty of land.
The areola look so big and bold. Gorgeous.
Regarding your variation in pyramiding, how did they sleep at night and did you offer a basking spot as babies(artificial or natural sun)

Thank you! Yes they were given basking spot in form of ceramic heater at one end of tort table and slept in plastic flower pots buried in th substrate of cypress mulch and sandy soil. I use a herbicide type sprayer to wet substrate every other day for keeping humidity up. They did have outside housing when they were young as well. Obviously did a lot of hiding when outside when they were small.

    Still raining here in Jamaica.
I must remember to bathe, towel dry, groom and carefully oil my torts before I take any pictures. Or they will come out looking like they have been spending too much time in the mud (which they have). And I will be ashamed of how they look in the pictures, compared to all these fantastic looking ones, like Ernie's, for example. Sheeesh.:(
