I find it extremely difficult to find Tallula's poop in her soil substrate, being the same color and all....so I wanted some advice for a lighter colored substrate....whats the best for my little Greek princess? :p Aspen I've heard of. The petstore told us to us something called lemon bedding...which looks like the aspen I think. But any other ideas?? They are not so reptile oriented here in Dubai!

And she buries herself when she sleeps so something good for that too hehe :D THANKS in advance my forum friends!

Shredded aspen, ok, I will try look around for that !!! Maybe I should find out how many people have torts and open my own import company of things just for torts :p Seeing as though this place isn't too tort user friendly!

I'm guessing this is it right?

So basically what I would use for a hamster or gerbil? I'll go check out the petstore....I will make sure it says Aspen Bedding on it! :p

Oh and Thanks again Dan :) What i would do without you, I have no clue!

OH THANKS, I just saw what you wrote now with the links :D Thanks Dan!!! I will go to the petstore and ask them personally to get the Aspen for me !!!
Do you think the lemon bedding would be okay to use, if they can't get it???

Not sure about the lemon smell :p Also it won't be good to dig in or walk on as it won't hold together. When you see and feel the aspen for the first time you will see the difference. The aspen actually holds together, which makes it excellent to walk on and dig into.
You've got the right stuff with the picture :D

If you have a hard time finding aspen (a northern tree) ask about popular bedding. I don't believe aspen would be common in the Arabian penisula. I would have reservations about the lemon as it is an aromatic wood. What do they use for livestock bedding there?

Ok poplar bedding, or popular bedding? Thanks for the info Larry.
I'll try find aspen, hopefully I can! I actually don't even think they have livestock here in Dubai? never seen one or heard of a farm etc, only camels! And they live in sand hehe. Thanks, yes, I agree about the lemon bedding, I would rather get something natural and healthy for Tallula :D Will see what i can find at the pet store close to my work on lunch tomorrow! And will let you all know :D

Aspen is great! The finer shredded stuff the better (the kind I get is for snakes not small animals) for digging. Also double check it is pure and not a mix of woods. If you shop around you might be able to buy a huge bag and save a lot of money once you're sure both of you like it (especially if some shop orders it for you). I get it in a 40 pound bag and it's very cheap.

Oh ok thats great Kate :D Thanks for that info ! Will try and see what I can find, and hopefully the pet stores are not too nasty to not order it for me if I can't find it!
So the smaller the shreds the better? How small is fine/small?

Well I went to the pet store close to my work, and they only have one kind of wood shavings, its a Dutch brand called Witte Molen Classic....but the woman there was useless, and the package doesn't describe what kind of wood it is !!! And I asked the woman if they could find me/order me some Shredded aspen, and she gave me a big fat no. NICE people !!! So I didn't buy it, I'd rather try another pet store at some other point. Grrrr

And I googled it and google doesn't come up with much about the stuff. So must just keep looking I guess.

I just found a pic of this Witte Molen stuff online...
