I produced one baby last year, and the same this year. I don't keep the males with the females all year, only for a few weeks after brumation till the girls start laying eggs. Most of the eggs are infertile, or they never go full term, but this little girl made it.

Aquatic turtles and box turtles are easier, but I'd like to produce more of these guys in captivity since they are no longer imported.

Have you thought about leaving the males with the females longer? Maybe more breeding attempts will produce more fertile ones. Just a thought.

I have in the past, but they just beat them up; breaking nails etc, and the males usually lose a lot of weight. Tones of visual barries and what not. I may try more of a selective breeding( although the males have issues finding where to...work).

Combat does help the males with testosterone etc, but the enclosure may be too big. I don't know. Maybe if I can get a lot more females. For some reason they are mostly interested in two females in particular.
