At some point, I realized tortoise table was a website, and I love it. I just want to make sure the foods on there are safe for all species.

Welcome Book Addict!

It’s a conservative site; the support plants that are known to be broadly “safe.”

That doesn’t mean all foods in it are appropriate for all tortoises. They are plenty of safe grasses, but Russians and other testudo tortoises don’t eat grass. They also list some fruits and vegetables that are appropriate for red foot and other forest dwelling species of tortoises; those aren’t good for your Russian either.

Stick to the broad leaved plants in the database and you’ll do just fine.

Thanks for the response. I've discovered that I have lots of good plants in my yard that will be good for him when spring comes along. Right now he's getting a variety of store bought greens. He's really into the curly endive.

The great thing about Russians is that they can really tolerate/appreciate things other tortoises can’t; I presume it’s because they have to get so much eating done in the short time they spend outdoors each year.
