Hi. I was looking for a nighttime heat bulb at the pet store and they were all pretty expensive. Later on, I came upon a regular blue light bulb at the grocery store. They had red and yellow and other colors also. It was meant for like a party. Well it was only 5 dollars so I bought it hoping it would work. Before I use it though, I just want to ask the experts if it is safe to use it as a nighttime heat bulb for my Sulcata tortoise. It doesn't really say uvb or anything. Thanks and here are some pics of it...image.jpgimage.jpg image.jpg

Torts are like children we don't look for the cheapest way we look for the least costly right way ! And that is a ceramic lamp it gives no light just heat . But you can use the blue light in your bedroom it will keep you warm . Torts need dark at night to sleep properly . Have a great tort day!

I know it gives no light. I'm looking for a heat bulb. And I figured that for the same bulb, I wasn't going to pay an extra 15 dollars at the petstore. Thank you for your help.

Totally agree with above. Night should be dark. It's the best way, as it is the most natural way. Some do use the red bulbs for night heat, not sure I have heard of the blue being used though. A ceramic heat emitter is not that expensive and last much longer then that cheap bulb will, like years longer.

The blue light bulb probably won't produce enough heat, it certainly will produce no UVB and the tortoise is best in darkness at night.
The CHE (Ceramic Heat Emitter) is cheap and will last a long time, as wellington says.(but also doesn't produce UVB).
