Hi there!
I am a new tortoise dad and I work at a place that has 2 Hermann tortoises about a year old. My tortoise is a couple of months old and we don't know the sex yet. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to take my tortoise to work on the occasional day?

Welcome from Devon. I don't think it would be a good idea, as tortoises can carry infections to other tortoises very easily - and also anyone handling your tortoise could pass on something from handling the work tortoises first. This is especially dangerous with yours being so young.
Lots of photos of your baby would be the best thing to start - maybe distance viewing in the future !
And please let us see photos of him/her too.

Thank you for your response and yes I think I will keep 'Tortoise' at home for now. I think I just like the idea of taking the Tortoise around with me ?
I have attached an image of the precious new addition
Regards
Tom

I have to admit that my husband and I have been taking our Hermanns tortoise out every day for the past 20 years, as we realised early on that he enjoyed car rides - sitting on my lap,
and long walks -( with Richard carrying him) and as we live near the sea, we also take him there a lot - he loves to watch the waves - stretching his neck out as far as it will go. So I am certainly not suggesting you should never take him out in future - just wait until he is bigger and used to being handled - and even then being very cautious - keep away from those tortoises at work -just in case - and choose natural environments - trees, gardens - and of course, you have the sea ! Avoid people as much as possible, though, especially while he is little - humans like to poke and screech with delight, which would be unfair on your baby.
Here is Zola at one of his favourite places
Best wishes from Angie

Hi and welcome,
Tortoises hate change so although you may not realise it, I think it could be very stressful for him to move him around, especially if he would be cooped up in a smaller than usual container for the day.
For the tortoises in work, are they in separate enclosures?
Here is the caresheet that will help you make sure they are being cared for correctly.

Because it's so important to keep your tortoise warm and at the correct temperature, I too don't think it's a good idea to take him away from his dedicated enclosure. Small tortoises cool off much quicker than the larger ones, and in order for your new baby to stay healthy and not get sick, he needs to stay warm.
