A fellow in Coarsegold (a foothill community about 45 minutes from me) didn't want his tortoises anymore. He'd had them 10 years and was tired of taking care of them. They have never been outside and I doubt they've ever had a drink, judging from the way they drank when I put them in the water. They were fed grocery store produce, which isn't all that bad, but I'm betting it included quite a bit of lettuce.
There are 4 desert tortoises, I'm guessing probably 11 or 12 years old. Not in the best shape, shell-wise, but active and alert.
They came to me in this:
...and I believe this is where they lived at his house. I may be wrong, but that was the impression the guy gave.
The smallest one scooted away while I was getting my camera, but it is about half the size of these three:
Chances are good that they're female, because the one at the top has aberrant scutes.
This will be a no-fee adoption, but I need to come to your house to check out the area where you plan to keep the tortoise. You can find what I look for during my "inspection" here:
