Made Thor a new hide that spreads a little wider in his enclosure. His slate hid is just about too small. The CHE is very close to it but can't really go anywhere else. Is this a fire hazzard? I guess a pic would be nice...I'll do that in one minute.

Here's the possible dilemma

Btw. The basking spot is only at 80 because I turn it off when he's outside. Just in case anyone was gonna chime in on that. Lol

I think you will be okay from what I can see in the pic. Is it a 100 or a 60 watt?

What worries me more is that you have it attached with the clamp. Is it also suspended from above? I have just seen those clamps fail soooooooo many times. Now THAT is a fire hazard.

It's a 150w. The clamp is attached to the plexiglass. Would a more detailed pic of how the lamp is attached help?

Ooh. That's getting pretty hot.

To need to find a way to hang the light fixture from over head. Then you can move it a little farther from the wood too. Those clamps are not reliable no matter how you use them.

Is there a shelf or anything over your enclosure? You might need to build something if not.

Let me take some pics and I welcome your suggestions if you don't mind

#1 complete enclosure with plexiglass top

#2 lamp attachment

Any suggestions how to better this enclosure is much appreciated. Example pics would be helpful if you have the time.

Sorry. I got #1&2 reversed

I can build a wood shelf up and around the enclosure but I'm dumb as to how to hang the lights w/o clamps.

How big is the dome? It looks like one of these.

If you drill holes through the plexiglass, you can use bailing wire to secure the clamp to it.

It the wide pic I can see some stuff dangling above the enclosure. Is there a wooden shelf up there? If yes, then your job is simple. I get rubber coated coffe cup holders from OSH. Dangle your light fixture over the enclosure where you want it to hang and mark the spot where the cord goes up and touches the overhead shelf. Drill a pilot hole and screw the cup holder into the wood. Then I run the cord through the cup holder and zip tie it in place so it can't slip down or move around. This should make your fixture hang straight down, right where you want it.

If you aren't tool savvy or sure of what you are doing, ask for some help. Many fires have been started when those clamps fail or the family pet knocks them loose, or whatever. Hanging the fixture from over head is much more secure and you can adjust the height for perfect temps.

I think a 5.5 is a bit too small for a 150w CHE. The wire cages are preferable for CHE.

Wow. The time you guys take to show me detail is remarkable. Thank you.

Ok. That gives me a lot to work with. Thanks so much. I'll post more progress as it happens. Y'all are awesome. Love this place.

Did I mention I have it on a thermostat? So it does turn off if too hot. However I'm gonna make the tweaks suggested. I'll be back w/ more pics. ...for next steps.

I bought a heat resistant screen flip top that covers 2/3 of his cage. Also bought a bigger dome thats rated for 150w. Now I just need to build a stand for the other light that isn't covered by screen. I have all the tools, just need the time. Hopefully tomorrow.
