My russian sleeps directly under his CHE which is 80 degrees F. Is this too hot for a night temperature for a russian? Just curious.

The spot under the che is only 80 or the whole enclosure is 80? 80 for a basking spot is too low, should be in the 95 range.

The temp right under the CHE is 80, which is his overnight heat source, and people say they're supposed to be in the 60s/70s so I didn't know if 80 was too hot. his MVB gets 95-100+. Which is his basking spot.

80 won't hurt anything for a well hydrated russian, but it is not needed and I worry about carapace desiccation.

I keep the room he stays in at 76 degrees F.
So I don't need a CHE for him?

Just remember that the temp in your room may not be the same as the temp at substrate level, especially if it is damp. I find that my enclosure goes cooler than the room especially in the middle of the night.

This is true. I do monitor the enclosure with thermometers and a temp gun. My enclosure is also high off the floor.

No. You do not need a CHE for any age russian in a 76 degree room.
