As of now it looks like a category 1 or 2 diminishing. Been there done that, so we should be ok. What worries me is if we lose electricity. With all the damage from the last hurricane. All the resources to restore power a have their hands full. The strong winds will hit the front of my house. So Ms.Sully and Opo should be good. Their enclosures are close to the back of the house. The last post I did about the hurricane. I had my direction turned around. I thought the strong winds were hitting the back side of the house. Front of the house better. The temps are still in the upper 70's. So if we lose power,I have a stock of hand warmers. So those will help Ms.Sully and Opo stay warm.
I would be terrified. I'm a bag of nerves when our winds are 40+mph.

Time to hunker down inside with torts Ray! Sounds very very scary. Take care!!
Thanks Lyn, I would have put the tortoises in the garage. Then went north to get a hotel in another state. But all the states nearby are full from the previous hurricane last week.

I have been in 120mph hurricane winds. That hopefully is the strongest winds we get. If you have everything in your yard stowed away and hurricane shutters on your windows. It should be ok, again the loss of electricity is my worst fear. I can go a few hours without oxygen. After that it gets a little tough to breathe for me. I have bottled oxygen to last a few days.

You might find this interesting, this is how winds are categorized here in Finland:

SpeedCategory
8-13 m/s or 18-30 mphA bracing/fresh wind
14-20 m/s or 31-45 mphA strong wind
21-32 m/s or 46-72 mphStorm wind
≥ 33 m/s or ≥ 73 mphHurricane/Cyclone
Note that I translated the categories my self and rounded up the miles per hour.

73mph would be a blessing for us. Thanks for the info.
Even that is rare here.

"In Finland, tropical cyclones do not occur because of our northern location and cool sea waters. Instead, in the low pressure systems with a frontal structure with which we are familiar, the 33 m/s (74 mph) limit can be exceeded in certain cases.

Such mean wind speeds have not been measured in Finnish sea areas - only masts on the tops of fells have occasionally recorded mean wind speeds of 33 m/s (74 mph) or more. At sea, Finland's highest mean wind speed of 32.5 m/s (73 mph) was measured in Kökari on 2 January 2019. 31 m/s has also been measured on a few occasions, for example on Valassaari on 25 February 1971 and at Moikipää in Korsnäs on 15 December 1975 and 23 December 1975."

Is that a app?
Yes, but it can be used on a browser too. It is the best translator I have found for Finnish. We have used in an academic setting for a few use cases (I am a uni student). It has a lot of features, but I like that it shows alternative translations for the words.

A perfect sunny Sunday. We are out in the garden trying to tidy things up after two weeks of rain. Cutting back bushes, cutting the lawn. Low to mid-80’s.

Hey Ray/Jeff. Such perfect timing with “the big move”. Our overnight lows now are starting to feel Autumnal.

That looks horrendous! I will be worrying about you, Rose and the torts tonight Ray.

My nephew who lives in LV works in the gulf on a ship/rig but thankfully he has just started his leave and is home otherwise he would be in the middle of that. I hope the poor souls still working there will be okay.

How are you enjoying uni so far? Did you manage to find good accommodation?
