I bought him a big red umbrella for this summer today. I think he'll like it even though he didn't get to use it yet. It gets really hot in his outdoor enclosure without one. It's in the sun most of the day. An umbrella makes the temperature drop at least 10Β° and more in the area it covers.πŸ€—

An angry MS Sully first
And the second pic is of a sleeping but soon to be bothered Opo.
I tried to lift him into a 12" deep cool water soak. Wasn't happening....holy crud...120lbs of very noncoopative weight! I could get him up 4-6" but I would have dropped him so we bailed on that idea. A great time there....got to meet Rose who is flat gorgeous and Nana who appears harmless but cooks with garlic, LOTS of it!πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

So I ask Ray..."how's MS sully?"

"She's a *****" he replied.
He didn't lie
She lit up hissing the moment I disturbed her highness! For those who don't regularly see large really large tortoises, it kinda takes your breath away to sit next to one.
That was a great trip.
"Old guys talking bout motorcycle stuff"
Very cool.

This morning was daughters wedding in the garden. A beautiful if warm ceremony and his folks are great. Now we are just relaxing outside....
Tomorrow we head down south of Ray to her dad's to drive him home over the next few days.

I think hosing Sully and Opo down is the way forward or an inflatable pool you can slide under them and then inflate - should last all of 5 minutes before it gets flattened.πŸ˜…

Pleased you had a lovely time, with Ray and at the wedding.

Dear Lyn,

Do you think we could go in the pool at the same time?

Opo and Ms Sully

As a reminder to myself for next time I complain about my university, I just paid my enrollment fee for both fall and spring semesters next year (no tuition fee for me), and it was just 76€ or 85,40 $. That doesn't of course include any study resources or supplies, but that is basically what I pay for the right to study

I am studying cultural studies.

Some people seem to think studying in Finland is free, it is not but it almost is. If you come from an non EU-country there is an extra fee. Also, as a student you have to pay this fee for health care. Even still, all these obligatory payments would come to less than 300€. Student loans are used to pay for living costs here, not studying costs. Not to get too political here, but there is a will to change the system within the current government.

When I went to university in the UK many years ago, there was basically no payment needed -one lived in accomodation run by the university, which was free to students - and healthcare was free anyway. My mother died a few weeks before I started, so the amount my father would normally have been expected to pay for my keep in vacations was reduced - and as I managed to get jobs away from home all during that time, he didn't really have to spend any money on me for those three years. I feel very sorry for students now weighed down by huge student loans- it must be so depressing.

In the UK, students now have to pay Β£9000 tuition fees per year; they can have a student loan to cover that but it has to be paid back when they start working and their earnings reach about Β£25k. I feel sorry for them starting life in debt.
When I went to uni I had a grant which covered tuition, accomodation and food, and my parents were expected to make up the rest, books etc., however, I also worked during the holidays and term times which helped a lot.
If I'd had to pay the tuition fees I wouldn't have gone to uni and my life would be very different.

It's been warm, but quite cloudy today and it's supposed to rain tonight - lots of it - which is very welcome. The poor wildlife is really struggling so this will give them some respite.
My hedgehogs are visiting every night and they are always hungry - the food I put out is all gone by the morning. Hopefully the rain will bring out the worms, snails etc and they can find some of their natural food.

I hope the people in the US who had storms last week are drying out and not too badly affected.
