Purchased this as a Russian tortoise at one of the boxed pet stores years ago. I'm pretty confident this is a Hermann's from photos online but thought I'd post to see if anyone with more experience disagreed.
As a side note, Sheldon became very restless this spring and we couldn't figure out what was wrong with the enclosure. It's like he was unhappy with it all of a sudden and was trying to find a way out. He's usually quite content with the setup during winter. The temps hadn't risen enough to put him outside yet and the humidity and temperatures measured fine. We replaced substrate just in case we had something contaminated. Well Sheldon laid one single egg this spring. She laid it overnight and broke the egg before we saw it. Sheldon is now Shelly - and Shelly stopped pacing the enclosure. I'm assuming she was in reptile labor?? This was around March and there have been no other eggs lain. I found it odd she only lay one. Sheldon.jpg

Yes it is a Hermann. I am no expert in tortoise breeding but she was probably pacing because she was looking for the best spot to lay.

This is definitely a herman yes😊feel free to check these links if you want to double check the different factors of her enclosure, just to reassure you her space is ok. But it was likely her finding a spot to lay as mentioned above, though I’m no expert on the breeding side of things either.

This one covers correct equipment(uvb, heating bulbs, lighting etc, I’d double check bulb types), sizing(you can get away with slightly smaller indoors if you can build a larger outdoor space when weather permits), appropriately maintaining the humidity, safe substrates, there’s lots of visual examples for everything, and a really handy diet link to check out!

This one here is good go over and keep on hand, it’ll help you avoid the wrong bulbs, substrates, housing etc, I always encourage double checking purchases on the forum too before buying😊

Hope they help for running checks!🐢💚
