So I bought this at Lowe’s for about $39. It has a filter in it that you can soak and then put in the freezer. You can also add ice and water to a chamber and then turn it on in three settings to put it simply it’s about 110° in Columbia, South Carolina right now with the heat index And I was able to cool his house off by over 17° Worth checking out. Jesse appreciates it for sureIMG_2143.jpegIMG_2142.jpegIMG_2047.jpeg1000001504.jpeg

Is it basically just a fan? Good idea and thanks for sharing.
A portable AC unit would work good to. However you do have to accommodate a vent and drain tube.

Yes and no. You can freeze the filter cartridge and add ice and water to the container so it does blow much cooler air then just a fan. On medium with one fill it will last 8 hours on turbo 4 hours. It’s probably not needed for most people but South Carolina is so hot and haven’t had rain in forever so I thought why not give it a try

Sounds like a great solution.
I have a small one similar to yours and it didn't do anything for me. It was not for the tortoises but me. I don't think mine had a filter you could freeze though. Just cold water or ice.

It's a small evaporative cooler. Water drips over the pad, air blows through the wet/frozen pad and cool air comes out the other side.

I purchased a few of those to use at night for a few of my Chameleons that required a dramatic night time temperature drop (indoors)
I froze the filters solid during the day and removed them every morning.
I'm not sure what your experience will be. But mine was not great.
I ended up just adding an other night time air conditioner to that particular room to go from the 73° of the rest of the house to about 60°.
Provide shade and a water pool. Also in the shade. Those things are great.

A large beach umbrella or two to shade Jesse's house would help keep it cooler inside during the hottest part of the day. Jesse is one beautiful adult sulcata.
That'd probably work in the South Carolina piedmont.
Or shade cloth anchored to trees or posts.
In south Florida, the daily storms would rip it to peices immediately

What was the humidity when you were trying to use them?

That's true, it works here for me because I'm always close by and if a storms brewing I just close the umbrellas and put a small Bungie cord around it to hold it close to the pole.
