That is not depressing at all. It is certainly unfortunate whatever misadvice landed him in a sandy aquarium to begin with but it is wonderful that he has since been liberated. Not all animals kept in those conditions are given the opportunity (or simply don't live long enough) to see brighter days. The tortoise looks beautiful and healthy, I am sure it is quite happy now. Good job : )
