Dex's growth rate

I just weighed Dex and a weight gain of 32 grams since the 13th! He's eating like a tank.

Dex is currently kept in a closed top glass tank. The dimensions are 60 in long X 18 in wide. In the spring he will be big enough where I will have a run that is 30--40 feet long. Night time ambient temps are always from 85-95 controlled by a thermostat, basking temp is 100-110, cool side is 85, ambient temp is 90-95. I soak Dex everyday for 20-30 min. I don't know the humidity percentage but I stick my hand in and it is always pretty humid from the damp coco coir. The water bowl is filled 2-4 times a day and evaporates quickly. I have a water bottle that I spray Dex with 4-6 times a day.

Keep this up and you are going to be very pleased with the results.

Dex is now 441 grams. It's amazing. He'll be 10 months in 5 days.

impressive! i am tracking Dex's progress closely since he is a few months older than Ryan, AND Dex has a nice smooth shell! i hope Ryan does just as well.

Stay on the forum, and yours will. But remember, weight is not always the determination of how healthy yours is. I think Dex is on the bigger side definitely. Eating has increased quite a bit! Thank you for the compliment.

That is pretty good weight gain. I remember my tortoise gaining 100 grams in a month and me thinking that there must be something wrong with my scale. Thanks for the update.

I just held him in my hand and could see some spread out growth lines on his shell. Also, he is feeling really dense, so I had to weigh him.

That's fun, I'll have to keep up with yours as well. I appreciate the compliments, he is a lot of fun. My dad and I have great plans for our side yard so that he can roam outside this spring, I'm very much looking forward to it.

Your Dex looks to be showing signs of a female. You can tell by the tail.

I was thinking just the opposite. Notice how the tips of the anal scutes are starting to flare outwards towards the back legs? That's definitely a male trait.

Interesting. When that member mentioned that, I went to a forum members house the next day. I saw the same traits, and it was a male. I was thrown off.

I thought that some do that!! Some have really clean faces and bottoms, it seems. Dexters face is stained green.
