Today, I popped into a pet store out here just to have a look around while I was waiting for another shop to open!! I had a look around to see if I could find any torts but I couldn't so went and had a look at the puppy's, as I was looking at them, I noticed a box, no bigger than a shoe box just poking out from under some shelving which had all sorts on it, as I bent down and pulled it out, to my disgust, i saw 8 ibera's of all different sizes just left there, they were damp, lifeless and smelt horrific :( the box was damp from were they had gone toilet, there was 3 bits of small lettuce in there along with a dried out flower!! It was such a horrible sight to see :( I really wish I had picked them up and walked out with the lot of them which i very nearly did, the shop owner would have never noticed, wasn't anywhere to be seen, but I couldn't have took them home :( and wouldn't have known what to do with them!! Feel soo guilty :( and can't stop thinking of them!!

Not to make you feel bad. But you should have brought it to their attention. Then, if they showed no concern, you should have called the human society or animal control in your area. That is animal neglect and abuse. I would go back there or call them. A visit back would be better and bring it to their attention and give them some advice on how they need to be taken care of. Better yet, bring them a care sheet. Give them a time limit to rectify the conditions or you will turn them in to every agency available. Do it in a helpful way, but make sure they understand the seriousness of the conditions.

Well sounds like you have a couple choices offered up to you....one, do nothing and feel guilty....two, go back to the shop with an offer to either take them off of their hands and explain nicely why and if they go for it you take them home set them up in a temporary enclosure (rubbermaid container) with some dirt and a heating lamp and then come on back to this site with pics and adoption title.....or offer to bring a rubbermaid tote set up there with dirt and a light and explain to them why you are making the offer....and hope for the best in whichever way you decide....likely they may not all make it...however, life wanting to survive may surprise you in what it can do...

I do wish you the best...and especially wish the helpless torts the best...

That's just terrible. I agree with everyone. I would return and communicate all the wrong reasons they are doing to the wellbeing of the animals. There are plent of us here that can help home these guys. I would at least attempt to save them.

I know your immediate thought was to take them and run, but I am glad you did not. If you had, then you would have been the one in the wrong and facing possible legal problems. I really like the choices Angela suggested to you. If after going that route, if they won't take your help, still give them some printed proper care information and even this site's address. If no changes are made, then go for calling in the authorities. Nice to give them a chance to see what they are doing wrong and change it, BEFORE bringing in the law because each of us started out not knowing proper care for these animals either and we all deserve a chance to learn.

I hate Cypriot care for animals :(
