Am I doing something wrong or do all Redfoots have insatiable appetites. Can they outgrow their shells or get fat?
I don't want to feed to much or little.

A tortoise can't outgrow their shell, it's part of them and as the tortoise grows so does the shell. They can get fat I believe but that's if you feed them every minute and the wrong things. I feed all my tortoises everyday in the morning and that's it. When they are done eating take the food out.

I do not believe a tort can outgrow its shell in any way.

I for one, feed my tortoise twice daily; once in the morning and once in the evening, during Summer. In Winter torts tend to lose appetite, so things change during cold weather.

I don't think torts get fat if they are given the right diet, living conditions and room to exercise.
They will eat when necessary.
If you feed them and it's all gone, then it's not enough.
There should be left overs.

Tortoises will get fat and overweight . some tortoises easier then others. They almost look bloated or swollen. If provided a good varied diet. And enough room for them to walk around and not just sit probably won't get fat. Most tortoises will stop eating when full too. Not all tho

My Redfoot clan eat a lot, but they DO eventually stop when they are full.
Thankfully Redfoot can eat such a wide variety of foods. There is always something around that can be fed to them.

My red foot seems to eat a normal amount.

Although the Mtn Tortoise I had would eat a mountain of food. I dont know where it put it all honestly.

They can outgrow their shells when not properly taken care of (we've likely all seen that pic of th box turtle with the shell way too small for its body), but with proper diet and sunshine, they don't.

The main thing is they need plenty of exercise. Species that hibernate are hard-wired to eat a lot during the warm weather, but in the wild, they also have plenty of room to wander looking for food.
