I have an 8x4x4 enclosure for my redfoot adult. What type of hide should I put in her enclosure? I have seen people say put a clay pot in there, or plastic of some type. What about making one of wood?

Wood will rot and mold. Clay pots are too abrasive and also make poor hides because they are wide open on the end.

Opaque dark colored plastic bins work best. Turn them upside down, cut out a door hole just large enough for the tortoise, wet the substrate under them a little, and shimmy them down into the substrate a bit.
