How old does your tortoise have to be when you can stop worrying about keeping the enclosure humidity high?

Pyramiding is caused by growth in conditions that are too dry. If your tortoise is still growing, then humidity matters.

For most tortoises, especially species like sulcatas or red-footed tortoises, maintaining higher humidity is important during their juvenile stage to support healthy shell growth and prevent pyramiding. Typically, this means keeping humidity levels up for the first 2–3 years of their life. After that, as they mature, their shells become harder, and the risk of pyramiding decreases, so you can gradually reduce the enclosure's humidity. However, it’s still important to maintain some humidity, especially if the species comes from a naturally humid environment.

I have a Sulcata.
For sulcatas, 10 inches is held as a rule when they can be moved to an outdoor enclosure. This is when they don't need a closed chamber anymore where the humidity is maintained. When your tortoises reaches 10 inches, will depend on a lot of things, especially care.

I have a Sulcata.
May we ask how your sulcata is kept?

How old is it roughly?
What are your temperatures like? Ie basking temp(directly under the bulb), overall day temps, night temps?
What kind of basking bulb are you using specifically? Packaging photos are good if you have any
What’s your indoor uv type?
How’s humidity reading?
What kind of substrate?

A photo of the set up would be wonderful! If you’re willing to share! Welcome to the forum🐢💚
