Coco wasnt pooping since few days, shes always straining but cant unload[emoji28] , so we took her to vet and got the xray done, she said she might need enema if laxatives dont work, but now she had to go somewhere on an emergency case, so im stuck. I tried giving her aloe and pumpkin but nothing worked, so how do i give her enema??? View attachment 245905coco shruti0002.jpeg

A human enema would be too much and the tip possibly a bit too big. You’d need a small mammal one only your vet could administer but that’s a blurry X-ray. If impaction is the cause an enema won’t work and could cause more harm. Are you providing warm water soaks twice a day for an hour or more?

You use a syringe without the needle. Put a little mineral oil (also called white oil, paraffin oil, liquid paraffin (a highly refined medical grade), paraffinum liquidum (Latin), and liquid petroleum. Baby oil is a perfumed mineral oil) up inside the cloaca. You can also coat a leaf of lettuce with mineral oil, roll it up into a cigar and hand feed it to the tortoise. NEVER put plain mineral oil into the tortoise's mouth as he can't feel it and may aspirate it into his lungs.

Another way we get tortoises to poop is to put them into the human bathtub (a larger space) with warm water that comes up to the middle of his sides and just leave him in there for an hour or more. Scrambling around in the tub, trying to get out, causes them to poop big time. But check on him frequently to make sure he's staying safe.

Helpful hint: Next time you ask the vet for a tortoise xray, lay the tortoise on his back. That way you get a better picture of what's going on inside.

And maybe check a different vet??? One that has some knowledge of reptiles???
