I recently inherited a (what I believe to be) ornate box turtle. I've read that their diet should be pretty much 50/50 greens and protein. He goes nuts for some worms, but won't touch any greens. I feel like I've tried absolutely everything. I didn't feed him for a few days and then offered him some greens which he took after moving them around like a worm, but he no longer falls for that trick. I have tried putting the worms in cut up greens and he just picks them out of the greens. I read on here to smear some reptimin pellets on the greens and that might pique his interest, but nothing. I have blended some greens into a puree and dipped the worms into the puree and he was not interested. Tried fruit too and the same response. So far, I've tried two different bunches of kale, red leaf lettuce, banana, strawberry, apple, and raspberries and he will not take any of it.
Unfortunately, I do not have much history of this turtle prior to me taking him in. The guy who had the turtle before me got it for his kids from somewhere (I suspect wild caught) and had him for around five years. The previous owner also decided to paint the shell of the box turtle with what looks like nail polish, but it's coming off as he moves around his enclosure. I am currently housing him in a 75 gallon (I know it's not ideal, but it's only temporary until I can find him a new home) with eco earth and some rocks I found and sanitized from outside.
