Hello

Since I bought my tortoise I have noticed sometimes her right eye gets red and she rubs it. I think she may get some dust in her eye so I try to rinse it out or bath her when this happens but she rubs it when water gets in so it seems better to leave it alone. Today she rubbed it a lot and the eyelid seemed a bit red and closed half way. It is now open again and bright and black. She’s eating fine [emoji5] does anyone have tips if this happens again? She (I call her she but I’m not sure) is only about 1 and 6 months

What kind of substrate do you use? It might be irritating her eye.

Go to the pharmacy and purchase a little squeeze bottle of sterile saline solution. It is found in the contact lens department. Gently flush the eye with the saline solution.

I use a soil substrate with calcium bits... I’ve used some types before that haven’t worked very well...
great thank you, is that 100% safe for baby tortoises?
