that actually looks like nest building to me, but like she does not know how, has she ever laid before?

That is very cool that you were able to catch that. Looks like she is trying to get his attention with those sweeping moves. "Hey big boy follow me!"

Yep.That is the exact movement made when covering a nest. Never seen it done at any other time, but I don't have CDT's.

Agree. You need to take a table spoon and gently remove the dirt from that spot. Chances are she laid eggs and was finishing covering the nest when you caught her. For some reason, probably smell, egg laying makes the male interested in breeding.

Good call, Yvonne, I was thinking the same thing. I'd check all over, in case she got moved.

but i think... you are not supposed to artificially incubate the eggs.. so if you find them.. mark the spot and protect it and let nature take its course..

They had just finished mating. There is no way she dug where she was doing the ritual. The ground is clay and still rock solid. The male was far less interested in her during her dance. He was tuckered out. I will check for possible nesting areas though.

according to law CDT eggs can not be incubated, of course I don't know anyone who has ever been arrested for breaking that law.
Just FYI

Interesting, looks like a nesting thing to me. Wonder if she does this after every breeding?

To the best of my knowledge, no. They have only breed a few times though. I have had the male for 15+ years, and I received the female last fall. This summer I decided that he may be getting some blue balls. As one guy looking out for another I had to give him a chance. The pick up lines I taught him must have worked. ;)
