if its from what we think it is not zoonetic but it can infect other reptiles possibly. most likely only other tort species. we will know the genome once the necropsy is done if the parasite does exist,
We are gathering information and checking that info to be sure it's factual. No one wants to make any false accusations.Isn't there any thing that someone can do to shut them down. How many hatchlings so far so you know of toys happened to? Omg I'm so upset reading this. Sounds as bad as a puppymill shipping sick dogs. I really hope the experts can do something about this place
the issue here is underground is only a reseller they dont breed sulcata there. so they buy from a breeder and if those are sick then they are resold.Isn't there any thing that someone can do to shut them down. O understand that completely!! Its just very sadWe are gathering information and checking that info to be sure it's factual. No one wants to make any false accusations.
Both the bottom and the top were soft, felt like pressing down on a hard boiled egg.did you notice any yellow spots or blister like bumps? sadly underground has been shipping babies with this and honestly this was most likely (almost for sure) not your fault. many of the cases of the sick babies are coming from them more i think then anywhere else. if yours had the same as the other ones we are seeing there would not have been anything you could have done anyway. its sad. but please ask before getting another one so we can send you to someone who has healthy and well started babies that will thrive with proper care. @Tom has awesome babies here. was it the bottom of the shell that was soft or the whole thing? when they are this age the bottom will always be a bit softer.
Thank you. I'm very saddened but this is reassuring...@Hywel We will probably never know which condition actually caused the death of your baby. Probably both were contributing factors.
The important thing for you to remember is that for both conditions, you could not save him. Nothing was going to save him. None of this was your fault.
We have excellent breeders on this forum, who start their hatchlings properly and have not been affected by this disease. When you're ready, any one of them would be happy to help you.
I know Tom will have regular sully hatchlings in March or April. Sully's breed in the winter.Thank you. I'm very saddened but this is reassuring...
If i could be pointed in the direction to anyone who currently has sulcata hatchlings for sale that'd be great too.
Yeah, my bedtime. Thanks! And I added it into my post.Sudan Sulcatas (This never gets old...)
My very first clutch of true 100% pure Sudan sulcatas is now hatching. I don't care how many times I see this, it just never gets old. I dig up the eggs carefully place them in my prepared shoe boxes, watch the temperature in the incubator and tend to them for months, and then... When that...tortoiseforum.org
your link did not show up so i added it here
Me too. Good night.im heading off to try to get some sleep myself. ill be checking in tomm.
At this point, I'm going to say anybody looking for a hatchling sulcata needs to buy directly from a breeder AND get positive confirmation from the breeder that the specific babies for sale were hatched and raised onsite.Thank you. I'm very saddened but this is reassuring...

Received him August 27th.@Hywel I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.
I know we've been asking a lot of questions, but can you give us the date (or approximate date) when you received your baby from Underground Reptiles? One of the things we're trying to tie down is a time frame.
Also, if you haven't already, please notify Underground Reptiles about what happened. Make sure to mention the yellow bumps or spots. If you call them, please make notes. If you email them and have an option to send it "read receipt requested" (more likely if you're using MS Outlook), please do so. Sometimes that option doesn't make it through the system on the other end (and they may still be able to opt out of sending it), but confirmation that they heard or read what you tried to tell them is good documentation to have. I would rather them not be able to plead ignorance or say they weren't aware of any issues.
