There is a way cool phone app called, "Garden Compass". It's a free app from what I remember. What you do is open the app, go to the proper place, take a picture of the weed, provide location information and basic background, (growing in lawn or wild). Then submit it thru email. I usually let them know I'm looking for tortoise safe food plants, I figure they're humans too, and they get back to me pretty fast. They give a tortoise safe disclaimer which I'm fine with, but they're a good resource. Then I use that information with http://www.chelonia.org or any of the other trusted Internet Machine sites to clear it all up for me. Hope this helps.

thanks I will try that! I already have about 8 or so weeds I feed on a regular basis and just looking for more variety. I can tell a huge difference in the health of my torts with pesticide free weeds and grass rather than spring mix and romaine from the store.

I try to explain to folks that grocery store greens and food that although even listed as "super food" is towards humans. At best, it's "weak food" for a tortoise compared to what they'd have as food in the real world. Keep on gathering and feeding real foods while you can. I've purchased on eBay many types of weed seeds that I've just free scattered in my outdoor encloses to provide more of the foods I want them to eat. I guess if needed, I'd grow weeds in flats on a window sill like I know some folks here on the Forum do in wintertime.
