hello! i have a baby russian tortoise (im assuming around 6ish months old) who seems to love being held and will even “run” to my hand when im near, and one thing i do with him/her is pet him/her on the head. sometimes he/she just sits there with his/her head out and “let’s it happen”, sometimes (but rarely) he/she will halfway hide his/her head in (which i know means stop) and a lot of the time, he/she will rub his/her head against my fingers (kind of like how a cat will rub its head on you for more pets). i thought this could be either a.) he/she likes being pet on the head or b.) it’s his/her way of telling me to stop. if anyone has any advice that would be much appreciated!! i don’t want to keep rubbing his/her head if they hate it but the way they rub their head on my fingers makes me feel like he/she is enjoying it (though maybe i’m just imagining it because i want him/her to like it lol)

My smaller sulcata is also like this. They can feel touch on their head of course and my large one loves warm water being poured on his neck/head during his soak.

I think they like it. If he's avoiding you then obviously dont pester him. But there are definitely torts that love this.

Sounds like a social little baby to me🥰

Don’t suppose you’d mind giving an update on how he’s kept now? It’s nice to check in😊

What are your temps like? Ie basking spot(directly under the bulb) over all day temps& night temps?
What kind of lighting&heating are you using now? Packaging pics are good if you have any
Still using indoor uv? If so what kind?
How’s your humidity reading currently?

Hope all is well!🐢💚

If the tortoise didn't want you to do it, it would simply avoid your hand and move away.

My Hermanns tortoise Zola, who is now 24, loves me to stroke him for very long periods of time. I sit down, lean back to make a slope, and put him on my chest, and he will get into his preferred position - I start stroking his back, sides and head - quite gently - he loves it all. He will enjoy this for ages, but eventually starts moving a bit, and wants to get down.We generally have a stroke of at least half an hour in the evening - sometimes a lot more - he decides when to stop.

My leopard likes when I rub his head and neck.
