Just got my first tort, a 1yr old Hermann, last week.

Just curious what general health checks do you do? What things to look out for?

Also is there any specific things you keep for emergencies? And why?
I’ve read a few threads about “first aid kits” but can’t see a lot of explanation about what situations you would use certain things in like medications.

Thanks!

"First aid kits" usually address common more or less urgent problems:

1. Choking on piece of food or substrate - plastic tweezers with soft/rounded tips
2. Injury - chlorhexidine (Nolvasan) / povidone-iodine(Betadine) for initial wound treatment, triple-antibiotic creme (Neosporin) to prevent bacterial infection.
3. Eye problems and alike - sterile saline solution for flushing. Antibiotic eye drops for treatment (probably, only by prescription).
4. Heat packs/insulated box - for "blackouts" and urgent transfer on colder weather.
5. Common tools - syringes, droppers, paper towels, disposable gloves, gauzes and so on.
6. Constipations - mineral oil
7. Other - one-two phone numbers of trusted emergency tortoise vets.

I might be missing something from "first aid" threads - just ask about particular item.
