I've had these two African Hingebacks for a while now but I've never been quite sure of their gender or species. Any help in identifying them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Rocky:

In case you're wondering Rocky is eating a grape. :p Also, he is not in his actual habitat, its just the enclosure I feed them in (to reduce messes in their home as they are such messy eaters).

Sorry for the blurry picture. :shy:

I'm pretty sure Rocky is a Kinixys Erosa and I'm also pretty sure that both of them are males because I have witnessed both of them trying to mate with the other at one point or another. I could be wrong so feel free to post what you think. By the way, if you need more pictures, I'd be more then happy to post more. Thanks! :)

Rocky is like you thought a Kinixys erosa. Marble is a Kinixys homeana. Like Laura said we will need plastron and tail pictures to tell sex.
You really should have these 2 seperate to reduce stress on the both of them, especially if they are 2 males.

Terry, just so you know, one of my male Home's has a bright yellow head and no nuchal - and is definitely a Home's ;) There are exceptions to that rule.

But I do agree, the first tort is an erosa, the second homeana.

Show us the ".. but usually not the extreme yellow head." And "PLUS the K. homeona has the 'nuchal' scute between the front 'marginals'.

Kristina.. you know I'd want pic verification. There wasn't any doubt about which was .erosa and which was '.homes'.

That's it - be prepared for new pictures tomorrow..... It just isn't fair to bash my inferior, poor quality photobucket dregs of indoor glumness. :D

Nothing to say about the lack of nuchal, then, Terry dear?

Actually Kristina I was basing that 'nuchal' info from only the dozen or so 'homes' I have seen in-hand. So I actually made that statement on a small number of examples. I said you were right on all other points...... did I not?

I know.... I'm just a moron!

How about this other yellow one? -
