We have inherited a Herman’s tortoise we believe he’s about 6. We have been feeding him the normal diet for his breed, we read about putting calcium on his food and sines then weve been putting this on but he seems to have stopped eating and not been as active or awake. Is this normal behaviour for this breed or what is the normal behaviour?

Also any other advice on what the correct care for the little guy is, please make us aware.

[there seems to be lots of contradictions online about what the best methods of care are]

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

The first thing you’ll want to know is that it’s species, not breed.
What are you feeding him? “Normal diet” doesn’t tell us anything. For a while, the normal diet was cat/parrot/other animal food.

You only need a tiny pinch of calcium once-twice a week. If he doesn’t eat it when it’s on, you’re probably using too much.

Here’s a Care Sheet that works for hermanns-
