My Testudo Graeca Graeca is over 80 years old and his rear leg has swollen up. I took him to the vets who did x rays and bloods (without anaesthesia - not that I was happy )and advised it was likely gout as he had high uric acid levels. I am waiting for blood results but the stress and handling on the day have made him stop eating and one eye is still closed after a week which really worries me. Will he get over the stress in time and will his eye reopen too ? Feel sick about it all tbh - gutted 😞

Sadly, this eye being swollen shut for a week and loss of appetite sounds like more than just stress from the appointment.

I suggest soaking the tortoise for 30-45 minutes daily in lukewarm water to see if you can get the eye to open and stimulate the tortoise's appetite.
