Hi guys. Im new here and i need some help. I am getting a hermann's tortoise and i was wondering what lights to use. I an getting the zoo med tortoise house for him as a hatchling, and i need help. Also winter is coming up so what should i do for winter. I live in kentucky of the united states. Many people suggest using the powersun 100 watt MVB bulb. And for night at winter, run the ceramic heat bulb. Any suggestions?

I would not get the ZooMed tortoise house. It is not well designed for a tortoise. Best to buy or build a closed chamber for a baby.

Here is a care sheet I typed up for russians. Care for hermanni is roughly the same.

If you use a power sun in an open topped enclosure, you are likely going to get some pyramiding.

Unless you let your house get unusually cold, you shouldn't need night heat. In Fall, you might need a little night heat, depending on temperature, to prevent hibernation.

Well, i will use the exo terra solar glo 160 watt UVB and basking bulb. I heard its perfect. I will also use coconut coir as flooring and bedding for him. Also will use sphagnum moss in her hiding spot.

Coconut coir works well I've heard, just don't get the zoo med tortoise house. It's expensive and not suited for most tortoises.
It's quite easy to make an enclosure for a baby, as they don't require as much space as older ones.
The thing about tortoises is that they require a lot of space compared to their size though.

For your baby you can either make a tortoise table out of plywood (Basically just a big box) or you can make an enclosure out of a plastic tub as they hold humidity well.

You should probably read this: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/index....ERMANN'S-TORTOISE-CARE-SHEET-*UPDATED.101410/
