This most likely happened because of stress. Someone or something has stressed her a bit and she just spontaniously laid just a yolk with most likely some white. I've seen it happen with just yolks and yolks covered with the membrane but no shell.
Yolks are valuable caloric resources and aren't just spit out willy nilly without a reason.

Thanks Danny. I didnt mention that I introduced a new male to her yesterday. Think he may be the culprate?

I have had chickens, peacocks, and a goose lay eggs with no shells. Usually they're enclosed in a membrane, and the sizes can vary from normal size to very small. I would guess most egg laying species do this.

Sounds like the new male is the most likely culprit.

That was very interesting. Could a female that had not mated do that if she was stressed or would it be an egg that was already developing?

Occasionally one of my Manouria females will drop a yolk prior to nest building. I've never thought much about it. She then goes on to build her nest and lay eggs with shells.

Yvonne, does she lay the same day that she does this or within a week?

No, quite a while before-hand. It takes them an awful long time to build a nest...sometimes a couple of weeks or more. And the shell-less egg happens before nest building.

I just asked because I have seen this before but never immediately fallowed by egg laying. The tortoise in the pic just layed eggs 8 days ago.
