My Russian has always been a conservative basker-- never shows any skin when he's just chilling out in his enclosure. Lately I have been seeing him with his neck fully outstretched, laying his head on the ground.

Its strange behavior for him, but is it any cause for alarm?

Perfectly normal behavior :D It means your tortoise is relaxed and comfortable with his enviroment.

Agree w/ Danny- my Charlie has a routine of stretching, curling, laying, yawning, and sprawling under his lamp. I love Tonka's enclosure. We currently have a 40 gal glass terrarium and thinking of switching.
