Is too much humidity bad?

Hello my indoor greenhouse has stayed at about 99% humidity day and night. The only place it’s not is directly under the basking light where it is about 60%and 100 F . Even at night its 99% With 81-82F.

I always hear how bad it is to have the humidity too low for a baby however is it too bad to have it consistently that high? In terms of respiratory or pyramid. He occasionally does have a runny nose.

And I must say my biggest goal is having the smoothest show possible I am not a breeder. I have him only for pet purposes. So the most rewarding thing for me is to keep his shell smooth as possible. Any other tips to keep shell smooth as possible . I have t5 on 5 hours a day .

Depends on the species. Leopards and sulcata can handle high humidity@ above 80%, likely with some other species that I'm not sure about
Others like the Redfoot and Mediterranean species no,likely along with others

It is for a leopard Babcocki . 170 grams right under 2 years old. Should I leave the greenhouse open for a little for the humidity to drop into the 80s?

It sounds like you’ve got a good humidity gradient, constant high humidity could be an issue if temps were off, but yours sound fine🙂

Yes I would. They don't need that high a humidity, 80% is enough. However, it will eventually dry up on its own and humidity drop, it will just take longer. Either way is fine, the high humidity will not bother a leopard.

What type of humidity sensor are you using? Most of the common, less expensive ones are really not good at reading humidity at 90% and above. Any fluctuation in temperatures (where the sensor is ever slightly cooler than the air temperature) can cause condensation to form in the sensor and it will simply constantly read 99%.

I do keep all my enclosures at 90%+ humidity. Burmese Star, Galapagos, Mountain, Spider, Planicauda, Radiated, Pancake, and in the past sulcata and leopard. Cheaper Humidity sensors will constantly read 99% in these enclosures. With proper heat, this is good for the tortoises.

Can I see your greenhouse set up? I have one but the humidity is just not staying up so I would love some advice from you with your super high humidities lol. The humidity is about 60-70% throughout and only about 30% under the basking light. I know this isn't good but I've been trying to add more and more water and it's just not working!

Do you have a photo of yours? I was looking through some of your posts and didn’t come across one, might help us give tips🐢💚

I'm not home right now but I will be in a few hours and can take some pics. I do only have Cyprus mulch in the enclosure right now so I'm thinking I may need some coco coir underneath.

Cypress should still be able to keep humidity up, but we’ll have a look later and see what we’re working with🥰
Here's what I have over top of Scooter's enclosure. The backside is also sort of open like the first pic of one of the sides because I didn't want him to get too hot in there. Also Scooter is eating right now so I thought I'd give you guys a pic 😂.

I think those gaps are what’s causing the issue, you want to eliminate as much air exchange as possible, so long as you’ve ran all the appropriate checks to make sure your basking temperature is going over what it should, you won’t have to worry about the enclosure overheating because the thermostat will be controlling your ceramic. I’d get those gaps covered and see how you get on

Such a cutie🥰
