Hi all,
I was looking back over these old pictures from this thread: https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/update-on-sheldon-9-years-later.185970/#post-1936715 -- how nice everything looked! Unfortunately, while Sheldon is still going strong, he has not been kind to his carefully aesthetically arranged home. The stone steps were originally aquarium safe silicone-glued to a light diffuser staircase type framework beneath and it has not held up at all. Pretty much all of it has come loose and been scattered. All of the woodchip substrate has ended up in the water. I don't think he much minds, but to me, his home is in a sad state of disarray.
I have two questions:
1) Can anyone suggest a safe and STRONG, i.e. permanent way to fix up these epoxy faux stone steps? My two ideas presently are either tapping threads into each stone and getting some nylon screws and washers or else dumping a whole lot of epoxy resin over the whole thing and hopefully it becomes one solid mass. Not sure about how well either of these two things would work in the real world, and hoping those with the voice of experience can chime in.
2) Still trying to crack this substrate nut. I have long considered and would love to have a live hydroponic substrate of edible plants that he could eat at his own leisure. Does anyone do this? I am also considering some faux grass turf left over from a backyard project that would look visually pleasing and wouldn't have the same issue of the wood chips ending up in the water. thoughts?
Thank you all!
