So it's only been day 2 of living in my tortoise table for these two, but I finally just noticed that both of my tortoises show signs of early pyramiding. I soak/feed them at dawn and dusk keep, their table humid, use a basking bulk with a UVB 100 watt, and I am feeding them alfalfa. I also am using an open top tortoise table. This is my first time with pets, i dont want to give these guys a bad start. I am I doing anything wrong?

What else do you feed them besides hay? It's very easy to correct pyramiding in tortoises this young. I'm curious where do you see the pyramiding at? You have a better picture of it?

Pretty much anytime pyramiding is happening, it's directly related to humidity. You need a constant humidity of 90% or higher. You can do this by sealing their enclosure and keeping the soil damp/misted, or you can use a humidifier. Either way, need to up the humidity and give daily soaks.

You can see the valley's starting to form between the scutes. And from the pictures, it looks WAY too dry.

True, true. It's easy to fix while young so put some foil or something to cover the enclosure to keep the humidity up and keep the heat in.

Here they are, I am currently waiting on a humidifier to Come in from amazon. It's a small one so I'll buy a bigger one. I'm planning on letting them walk outside tomorrow. I can't really change the open tortoise table but I can get rid of the dryness by adding more water to it.

You for sure need to get a closed top , you can probably save the table for when they're older and humidity isn't such a huge need.

I canceled the order from amazon since it hasn't even shipped out yet, would a baby room humidifer from target be good for an open top table?

Save your money on a humidifier and just cover the top. Really. It's the best thing. Even aluminum foil will help. Get a pitcher of water, pour it in, cover and you are set. You pics look very dry (even though your babies are so stinkin' precious!!!)

Agree, you need to enclose the table. I built a cold frame and just cover with plastic.
This is my new one. The half on the left is finished and the other is under construction. We had an old yard canopy that was broken. My husband used it for the frame.

What size is your table? Amazon had plastic greenhouses that work really well, I think they're aroind 48" by 23" or so. If that's about the right size, let me know if you need help finding what I'm talking about.

Till you get the humidity up - take a look at the thread on EVCO (Extra Virgin Cocconut Oil) in "deabatable topics"
