i know your not supposed to use pine and a couple other mulchs and pure cypress mulch is hard to find (cheap that is) and was wondering if poplar mulch would be good? its fine mulch and also chunks like reptibark. this is a repost cause i didn’t get enough information in the other section so i figured id try here. (this is also for a redfoot)

I've never heard of anyone using poplar mulch, so there must be a reason for that.

Fir bark is the way to go. AKA: orchid bark. Get the fine grade stuff. It can be found at most nurseries, but not usually at large hardware stores. OSH usually has it in 1.0 cu.ft. bags pretty cheap, but HD and Lowes usually don't have it.

ive never even really heard of poplar mulch in general before thats why i asked, they also have a oak, maple, poplar, and hickory blend mulch. i was going to get the cypress blend at HD and/or Lowes but being that its a blend i have no clue whats in it. i have a nursery not too far down the street that ive been meaning to go to but havent gotten around to it. im just so bored of only coco coir and its also not holding humidity as well as id want it to.

You should be able to find cypress relatively cheap in your area. Lowe's up here carries straight cypress for $4.99 per bag. If not, definitely try the nursery.

I use a LOT of mulch in my outdoor pens. I had been buying whatever was cheapest. But since the last round of hurricanes, I've been told to be careful because a lot of the mulch out there has hurricane debris in it. Bits of whatever.
While my tortoises don't eat mulch, they very well might attempt to eat things that look good hidden with it. Brightly colored metal and plastic for example.

Oh. That would be ideal.
Most of our labeled mulch is cypress.
