Need a tortoise ID please...

Hello!
I'm posting on behalf of a friend who has come to me asking for advice. Hard to give advice, when I'm not sure the kind of tortoise it is.

She got a tortoise for her daughter at the local pet store, and she has no idea what kind of tortoise it is, and it's not specified on any of the paper work. She verified it is vegetarian, and it's still just a little guy...fits in the palm of her hand. I will recommend that she calls and asks, but honestly, I would be skeptical that they'd be helpful, as it was one of those big box pet store/pet food store chains.

What do you think it is? I have my own guesses, but I thought I'd ask the experts.

it is a russian tortoise, about 6 to 8 years old, my guess, probably a male yes, vegetarian very hardy and easy to take care of great pets i love them

I was thinking Russian, but honestly, I know CDTs the best, as that's all I've had for the last 12 years, and there's so many types I'm completely unfamiliar with. But Russians I do have a little experience with, so at least it's somewhat in my wheel house.
