I have a pet tortoise named Carrot she is 5 to 6 years old, I got her from a local pet smart but when I got her the store never told us what species it was but they did know her genus was Testudo.
I have always thought she was a Russian Tortoise but when I look up pictures the shell pattern doesn't quite match. I have never seen a Russian Tortoise with her shell pattern, but besides that, she looks like a Russian Tort.
(Her shell might look damaged, It's because not too long ago I learned that cfl lights can harm your Tort's shell.)

I would say it a russian and the black pigment is yet to fill in. You can see growth lines. I suggest you read this care sheet and check settings. I would switch water bowl and food for flat flower pot bases to encourage walking in and hydration as well as shallow warm water soaks twice a week in a high sided container for about 30 mins.

My 1-year-old russian has similar coloring, with much less dark pigment than others I've seen on this forum. Yours is definitely a russian - I think some just have more or less brown/black than others. Makes each unique!
