Found a tortoise in Visakhapatnam, India. A few months ago, he/she was found by someone from my family dehydrated and lying on hot asphalt at noon. We need help because we think he is trying to hibernate. Identifying his species would go a long way in helping us out. Here are a few pictures.

Thank you

Hello and Welcome. The person I alerted in the post above should be able to Id for you. It's only 4:13 in the morning where he lives, so give it some time

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

It looks like a star tortoise that is badly in need of a good soak. Place the tortoise in a tub of warm water and just allow him to stay there for a good half hour or so. They don't hibernate.

The soaking water should come up to about the middle of the tortoise's sides. After a half hour, take a soft brush and give him a good scrub. He's very dirty.

That is a male Indian Star, Geochelone Elegans.

wow! Love its Skin coloration and it is probably the smoothest (unpyramided) Indian Star I've seen!

Thank you very much, guys! I think he's not taking the winter well. In the place he lives, The temperatures are between 20C and 30C in winter. Any special tips to take care of him?
He was found shivering a couple of times.

Thank you so much for helping and all the love you're showing him.

PS: That's not a bloody nose. He crawled through the prayer room and got some red powdery stuff used in Indian prayers (Kumkuma) on his face. Haha.
