need help selecting small breed turtle

hi! I've been wanting a tortoise for a while and I'm getting one for christmas and i want a breed that stays small. please help

welcome to the forum:)! I agree with lismar! russians are an amazing species with huge personalities! just remember to be able provide ALL the right care before you get this tort. also think ahead in 40 years will you still be able to care for the tort?

But just remember, just because they stay small doesn't mean you can keep them in a small area. Russian tortoises are hard-wired to roam over great distances. And if you lock them up in a small habitat they will scratch and dig at the corners trying to escape until it drives you crazy.
