Need help for my tort

I bought a Lil sulcata tort about 3 to 4 months ago. I listened to the people at the pet store and I see they don't know much. B/c everything they told is totally different from what I keep reading online. I have one of those tortoise house you can buy online. I have a 100 watt heat bulb and 100watt mvb bulb . I just got the 100watt mvb yesterday . His Lil shell is soft on the sides. that's why I got the mvb bulb . B/c of what I read is not enough calcium he is getting . I soak him 3 to 4 times a week . His cage humidity stays around 55% humidity . The heat in his cage is around 90 to 96 under the light and around 75away from the light . I need help to save this Lil guy . I lost a Lil tort a month ago and do t wanna lose this one either . Also I feed the Lil guy a Lil greens with grass and hay , a seed I got online that had oats cloves and other stuff in it . I need help to see if I'm doing it wright or the wrong way .

Welcome to the forum. Could you tell us a little more about how you have been keeping your Lil sulcata. It would help the members here to know this so that they can repond with some advice. Pictures would help too.

RE: Need help for my tort

Hi and welcome to the Forum :D We LOVE PICS :p

What size is your tortoise...what type and size of enclosure do you have for him...what type of substrate are you using? From what you have shared so far about the new lighting it sounds like you are making some positive strides. Unfortunately some of the folks in the pet shops don't know the most helpful information to share.

I am sorry for your loss on your other tortoise.

Hello and Welcome :)
I have a bunch of links here that will help you take better care of your sully.
The main thing she needs is to stay hydrated, humid, and hot do not let the temps drop below 80 degrees and the overall humidity needs to be at like 80%
You should be misting your sullies shell like crazy everyday and soak everyday.
You do have to supplement calcium and make sure that she/he has a basking spot of around 100 degrees.

Here are my favorite threads about sulcatas and how to raise them , I put the really important ones in bold so you know where to start

this is about the best enclosures for sulcata tortoises http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-Closed-Chambers#axzz1hkZxITMK

These are care sheets , one is for leopard tortoises but it works really well for sulcatas . Tom's how to raise hathcling sulcatas is the most important though

I hope that helps, it would take me forever to type out all that information so its just much easier to give you the links. Its going to be a lot of reading lol
Once you get done though if you have any questions all you have to do is ask and you will get TONS of answers :)

Okay so I just realized bolding the links like that makes them not work lol you would have to copy and past so I am just reposting the bolded ones :D

I live in louisiana , my enclosure is one of those tortoise house you buy online its about 3ft/4ft .I do have a basking site for my Lil guy , it's about 96deg. There and about 75 at the other end of the cage . I do use a calcium sprinkle stuff from zoo med . My Lil tort is about 3inch long / 2 1/2 wide. Since I've had him I've been feeding it greens all the time with a Lil hay and a seed mix I got online . The seed mix is pretty good from what I have read on here all the stuff in it is what's its supposed to eat. I've tried too stop feeding it the greens to get it eating what's its supposed to eat . But he is not eat at all now . I soak him everyday for about 10-15min a day . My substrate is rabbit pellets , I know that's not what I'm supposed to be using so please let me know what I need to use for the Lil guy . I think I answered everything everybody asked about. Also my name David but everybody calls me fireman Dave . So please help me in the wright detection please thanks.

Do you keep your tort outside or in? Does he ever get out to the sun? The MVB is great keep that up, if you could get him out for some sun a few times a week that would be good as well even for a half hour. You guys have tons of sun there, I wish I had sun all the time where I lived, my torts would be out everyday for a little bit! Get us some more info. and you will get the help you need!

Today I did major turn around in the good direction. I put my Lil tort back in a glass aquarium . I put cypress mulch in there and did a Lil moisture box with coconut shavings in it. I got the aquarium up to 80 percent for humidity and temp for night at 75 to 80 and during the day at 100 on one spot and the rest at 75 to 80 . Started vitamins today too for him too. So I'm making great strides now . So people comment please. Thanks fireman Dave

Hi Dave:

Please continue to feed your little guy the greens. Baby sulcatas won't eat hay until they get to be quite a bit bigger in size. So, sprinkle a little bit of calcium on the greens and make sure he's getting the UVB either from the sun or from a GOOD UVB light, because without the UVB, the calcium doesn't work.
