Hi all, Im Pat from Ireland, and yesterday my son because the owner of a red foot. We already had all the stuff needed for I feel the shop he got it from left out a lot of info. They sold him bark only for the substrate and never told him anything about heat... I have done some research and think I have things arranged for the RF so he/she will be happy but just need to make sure. I will also add some photos.

I have the tank split in 2, one side is the dry bark with the basking light above that area and I have his hide out away from the heat light with coco fiber and moss as the substrate, You can see in the pics. I do have a heat mat under his hideout but I have not turned it on as I am assuming he will need a cool spot away from the light, or do I need the heat mat to give heat from under neath while he is sleeping?

I have the heat up between 80 and 90 on one side, and the humidity is just over 60, are these right?

Also how can I tell what age he is, he is about the size of a tennis ball!

Thank you for the quick reply, I tired a bath with him today, I have a water bowl that he can walk around in, but he just climbs straight out so I assume he does not want one? or do they need to be forced to bath?

Force him. Put it in something large enough for him to walk around in but not climb out of. Soak him for 20ish mins a day but make sure the water stays warm.

I use my kitchen sink. They CAN'T get out.

The sink is also easy to disinfect afterwards. It's stainless steel.
The issue is that they are the same diameter as the sink.

My RF (Flash) is only the size of a tennis ball so the kitchen sink is huge and will work perfect.

Something I just thought about Is will a RF gorge themselves? Do I need to worry about them eating to much or will they stop when full?

I don't think a tort can over eat as such, as long as they have enough room to walkabout and 'exercise'
that being said, they'll munch and much if its there. i belive a shell sized amount is a ruff gauge on how much to feed

don't take this as gospel though, im new to this game too lol

In my opinion, there's no way to over indulge a redfoot provided the food is on the "healthier" side: dark leafy greens, weeds, flowers. Feel free to feed an abundance of that type of stuff. Processed foods, fruits, and protein on the other hand should be fed sparingly.

I also agree with johnandjade. A variety of greens along with plenty of roaming space and good husbandry will help.

Also, welcome to the forum. We love pictures and don't mind questions :D
